Stromanthe are a striking houseplant with wonderfully variegated, long and pointed foliage that are covered with splashes of pink, green and cream. Make sure to give this plant plenty of space, you’ll want to show it off!
Light: Indirect light or shade
Stromanthe do best in a spot with bright but indirect light, but can tolerate a shaded area in a bright room too. Make sure to keep it out of harsh direct sunlight as too much bright light can scorch the leaves, or cause them to fade and appear washed out.
Water: Frequent
Water when the top inch of the soil is dry in the warmer months and when the soil is at least half dry in the cooler months. The easiest way to check moisture levels is by sticking your finger into the soil to the required depth.
Humidity: High
Stromanthe are native to the tropics of Brazil so need a spot with lots of moisture in the air - a bright, warm bathroom is ideal. No space in your bathroom for more plants? Don’t despair - simply grouping plants together or placing a dish filled with stones and water beside the plant can greatly increase moisture levels around your humidity loving plants.
Note:
This plant tends to be a slow grower so we recommend repotting every 2-3 years. If you're unsure whether it needs repotting, you can check to see whether the roots are growing through the drainage holes on the bottom of the pot as this is a sure indication your plant needs a bigger home.
