About
Rhaphidophora tetrasperma are a well loved houseplant because of their interesting and unusual leaf shape, and the fact that they're very easy to look after.
Light: Bright but indirect
They prefer bright but indirect light, but can tolerate direct sunlight in the early morning hours. They're relatively shade tolerant too - an all round easy going plant!
Watering: Moderate
Water when the top inch of the soil is dry in Spring and Summer, letting the soil almost fully dry out in Autumn and Winter. The best way to test compost moisture levels is by sticking your finger into the soil to the required depth, or by checking the soil through the drainage hole at the base of the pot. Never allow the plant to sit in water as this can cause the roots to rot.
Humidity: Moderate
Rhaphidophora are tropical plants so will enjoy high levels of moisture in the air. However they are perfectly happy in the typical level of humidity found in our homes, providing they are kept away from known air dryers such as radiators and fan heaters. Misting the leaves weekly is recommended.
Note:
Rhaphidophora are easily propagated by stem cuttings which will root quickly in water. This is best done in Spring or Summer. Re-pot your cutting once the roots have grown to a couple of inches in length.
