Livistona rotundifolia are most recognisable by their large, round, fan shaped leaves (don’t forget about those thorny stems, ouch!).
Light: Bright but indirect light
Although these guys can handle partial shade, bright but indirect light is best. Placed a little back from a south or west facing window is ideal, but they can sit happily in an east or north facing window if the light levels aren't compromised by surrounding buildings or trees.
In Spring and Summer allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between waterings, and in Autumn and Winter it would be best to let the soil dry out fully. The easiest way to check moisture levels is by sticking your finger into the soil to the required depth. Remember that watering should be reduced if placed in a shadier spot.
Commonly found in the rainforests of East Asia, Australia and Africa, Livistona love a spot with lots of moisture in the air - a bright, warm bathroom is ideal! No space in your bathroom for more plants? Don’t despair, as simply grouping plants together or misting the leaves more regularly can greatly increase the humidity levels around your tropical plants.
Palms are extremely good at purifying the air, removing toxins such as formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide, making them not only an attractive addition but a health conscious one too.
