About
Homalomena rubescens are an extremely easy plant to keep indoors and have very attractive heart shaped leaves sitting atop vibrant red stems.
Light: Indirect light
Homalomena do well in bright but indirect light or a partially shaded spot (although the former is where it will be happiest). If it's in too bright a spot, the leaves will scorch leaving burn marks.
Watering: Moderate
In Spring and Summer let the top inch or two of soil dry between waterings, and leave at least half the pot of soil to dry out during Autumn and Winter. The easiest way to check moisture levels is by sticking your finger into the soil to the required depth. If under watering occurs the leaves will wilt quite dramatically, but should jump back up when watered (although it's worth noting that this can affect the long term health of the plant if left to wilt regularly).
Humidity: Moderate
Homalomena are tropical and subtropical plants so will enjoy high levels of moisture in the air. However, they tend to do well with the average households humidity levels. Misting the leaves weekly is recommended.
Note:
The broad leaves of the Homalomena tend to gather dust. Regularly wiping the leaves with a damp cloth is recommended, or you can use a neem oil and water mix to stave off pests.
